Homebirth FAQ

This is my first baby. Can I still birth at home?

Yes, absolutely! We help first time mammas all the time. Working with a midwife has many advantages for first time parents. You will love the long appointments, the time to answer all your questions, and the extra support breastfeeding and postpartum.

Will you attend breech or twin births?

We believe that women should have the opportunity to choose if they want a vaginal birth when their baby presents breech or when there are twins. Finding a provider who has the training, and is comfortable and willing to do them at home ( or at all )is the biggest obstacle women face. We are happy to discuss your breech or twin case no matter how far along you are and when things are normal for mom and baby we are happy to attend breech births.

I have other young children. Can they come to appointments or be at the birth if I want?

Yes, please bring your children! There are books and creative toys at our office for the kiddos, and I love getting them hands on in visits. It is completely up to you which of your children you want at your birth. It can be very special to have older siblings involved at the birth. If you want to do this we will talk about ways to prepare your children for the birth.

Can I have a water birth?

You bet! We have a variety of water birth tubs available for rent.

Do you offer testing and utlrasounds?

Yes, you can get ultrasounds as well as any testing that you want or need. We do all the bloodwork in our own office.

Do you require testing or ultrasound?

You are in charge. We will make specific recommendations to you about what testing we think would be good to have at the beginning of care and as things come up if needed, but you decide what you do and don’t want.

How often do you transfer care to the hospital during a birth?

Not very often. Our transfer rate is less than 3% of clients on average.  Most often, we are transferring for non-emergent reasons.

How many of your clients end up with a cesarean section?

Our practice cesarean rate is less than 3%. We work hard to do everything we can to help women achieve a vaginal birth.

Do you take insurance?

Yes, we will work with most insurance companies. We work with a professional biller who can help you find out what your insurance covers and make sure you get the most money back possible. Unfortunately, at this tie we are unable to accept OHP due to their exclusive policies.

Do you work in the hospital?

No, we do not attend births at the hospital except for the rare instance one of our mamas transfers care there.
